Do you want to contribute a write-up to SPREAD? If yes, please spare a few minutes and read carefully why and how you can help SPREAD-ing health education among patients.

SPREAD aims at welfare of patients by spreading health education in three languages (English, Hindi and Bengali). You would agree with us that for better management of any chronic disease, patients must know a lot about those diseases. In fact, in most good hospitals in developed countries, there are patients’ libraries in addition to library for doctors. Unfortunately, most patients in India do not get opportunity to know about their diseases. Doctors in developing countries also have to see an unmanageable number of patients per day due to less number of health-care-professionals; this results in lack of time to educate patients about their diseases. These factors result in inadequate care and monitoring of chronic diseases leading to development of multiple complications. SPREAD attempts to overcome some of these problems. Your contribution to SPREAD will go a long-way to benefit patients. Please follow the instructions given below while writing your article.

  • The article should be brief and written in non-technical language. If you know Hindi and/or Bengali, please help us by submitting the article in all three languages (English, Hindi and Bengali). If you do not know either or both the two local languages, we will translate your paper. The article should be written as a story. It helps us to reach feeling of the patients more deeply if you start with a real-life story without giving any identity of the patient. It is important to be practical, highlight do’s and don’t for the patients, dietary and other life-style issues that help controlling or preventive the disease and complications of the disease if not controlled or treated adequately and monitoring strategies.

  • Please give good-quality cartoon pictures or other photographs (either color or black and white) to make the article attractive and easily understandable by the patients. However, if you use photograph from any copyrighted materials, it must be accompanied by the written permission of the copyright holders.

  • We also encourage submission of important news items and stories that have substantial bearing on health issues of public. These should be brief and accompanied by good-quality photographs. Sometimes well-written stories may help patients suffering from incurable diseases to get new hope to live despite having disease, which may have substantial bearing in management and improvement in quality of life. We encourage patients, their relatives with good writing skill and literary writers to submit such stories.

  • Articles should be submitted either as email attachment or in CD in MS Word file and figures in JPEG or bmp format along with written permission to edit and publish it in SPREAD.
